CPA, RevShare and hybrid deals with streamers, explained
Most streamer deals in iGaming are built from two building blocks — a fixed payment per qualifying player, a share of revenue, or both. Here is how each works and what to watch for.
CPA: a fixed amount per qualifying player
Under a CPA (cost per acquisition) deal, the brand pays a fixed amount for each referred player who meets an agreed qualification — typically a first deposit, sometimes with a minimum deposit or wagering requirement attached.
What to check
- The qualification rule. "Depositor" can mean very different things. Get the exact definition in writing.
- Baselines and caps. Some deals cap the number of qualifying players paid per period.
- Market scope. Which countries count? Players from markets outside the agreement are often not paid.
- Payment timing. When is a player confirmed, and when is the payout cycle?
RevShare: a share of net revenue
Under revenue share, the creator receives an agreed percentage of the net gaming revenue generated by referred players over time. Upside is open-ended, but so is variance: a few high-value players can dominate the result, and a big player win can make a period's revenue negative.
What to check
- How "net" is defined. Which costs are deducted (bonuses, fees, taxes) before the share is applied.
- Negative carryover. Whether negative months are carried into the following months, or reset.
- Duration. Whether the share is for the lifetime of the player or for a fixed period.
Hybrid: a CPA plus a revenue share
A hybrid deal combines a (usually lower) CPA with a (usually lower) revenue share. It gives the creator some guaranteed income per qualifying player while keeping long-term upside. For brands it spreads risk between upfront cost and long-term value.
Fixed fees and flat placements
Some campaigns add a fixed fee for specific deliverables — a sponsored stream, an overlay, a wager race. These sit alongside performance terms and should list exactly what is delivered.
Questions to ask before signing any deal
- Is every term — rate, qualification, markets, payment cycle — in writing?
- Can I see my numbers live, or only in a monthly statement?
- Is there exclusivity, and for how long?
- What happens to my players if the deal ends?
